Cavaliers News:
Injuries:
CF Javier Janchez, 3 day, torn ankle ligaments
SP Claudio Perez, 3 Months, Ulnar nerve irritation
SP Carlos Coronado, 13 months, Reconstructive elbow surgery
I was looking forward to having Carlos Coronado around for a long time in this rotation, but that took a hit this week as he will be shelved for the next 13 months! He is due to have elbow ligament reconstruction surgery. A tough break for the 24-yr old who was off to a great start. The worse part of it all, Carlos was listed as "Durable"... To take Coronado's roster slot I brought up David Moran. A 23 year old lefty with great control, and I have moved Armando Lopez into the rotation. I will probably get Jesus Ramirez and Vaughan Griffith some starts as well. Vaughan will get the next start, however, since Lopez isn't quite rested enough.
Other/Roster News:
GM Notes:
Sergio Galvez hit .278-19-79 last year and .267-15-90 in 2021. He seems to be coming around and I really expected him to start being that 30/30 man that his talent says he could be. Maybe its my fault for playing him in the OF and not at 1B or moving him around and not getting him a set-slot. I don't know, but he is off to an awful start this season so far, and I am counting on him to do so much more .194-0-3 (6-31).
King Brock is hitting the ball well, but he isn't knocking anyone in. Brock is 14-39 (.359), but only had 1 HR and 3 RBI's. I need more from hm #4 man. Maybe its time to move Galvez down from the #2 slot.
I may jinx myself by saying this, but Dalton Whitaker is looking good so far this year. He isn't getting the K's, that he once was, but he is getting outs. In 6 games he has 5 saves, allowing just 4 hits. I would like to see him strike out a few more guys, but I wont' hold that against him. I hope he can maintain this level of pitching for the rest of this season.
Marcos Estrada has found a home in Norfolk, and is enjoying being the #2 on a rotation. Less pressure, he seems to have found his groove early and is winning over the Norfolk fans.
I am going to be in a tough position when Janchez comes back. John Stewart will get sent to AAA, but then what? Janchez goes to CF, Galvez goes to first, Brock to DH and hten where does Lambert go? Lambert and Hamer will be sharing time for a little while. Hamer is doing a decent job in 11 games: .278-2-6 and Lambert just about the same .256-2-9. In a perfect world both these guys are in the lineup. Then there is Ramon Granados: .455-1-4 who is hitting the ball... talk about a log jam in the outfield... I am going to be torn on what exactly to do with these guys.
