Was this issue ever resolved? I just purchased FHM, started up a new game as GM of the Canadiens, and tried to make a trade, but got the same error as the OP. I tried a player-for-player trade and even got the same error attempting to trade a player for a draft pick.
Is there a workaround or a way to avoid this? Thanks for your help!
