It won't. You have to figure that out and add the year in the .txt file. It can be any year from debut to end of career.
Personally, I'd import all as rookies, set my options on the import screen and see what happens..
If you want to import as rookies, simply use my historical importer (click link in sig.). It's made for open office, but you should be able to use it in excel as well even though the concantenate formulas may not work you can still delete all the columns except lahman id and debut year and save it as a .csv file. Change .csv to .txt (make sure there is no space between the comma and yr.) and import to ootp. All players who ever played will import as rookies.

P.S. Since you want to sort players by state/country. Would it help if I created a .csv version that you could open in any spreadsheet that would also include their state/country in which you could create separate .txt files for individual state/country???
