Cavaliers News:
Injuries:
Jeff Lewis, Broken kneecap, 4-months
Claudio Perez, Bone chips, 4-5 months
Tom Anderson, Hamstring Strain, 4-5 weeks

When it rains it pours, bad things happen in threes, we all have heard them and maybe that is what is going on. But whatever it is, I am not a fan, as Tom Anderson is now out 5-6 weeks, meaning he will most likely miss the playoffs. Anderson was hitting .290-11-56 after a slow start, which included a lot of K's he finally found his groove.

Looks like I will be plucking yet another guy from the AAA roster, Mario Gomez, will be on his way back up and will be playing 3rd. I don't think the Baystars will win the title this year with as many players that have been pulled from them, but oh-well, they won it last year. Gomez is hitting .409-14-76 in AAA and will be the starting 3B for the rest of the season (and probably the playoffs).

Other/Roster News:
After a frist round sweept, the Yokahoma Baystars season was over and the rest of the clan came up to join the Cavaliers:
OF Tom Dundee
OF John Stewart
RP Felix Deliz
RP David Moran
SP Jesus Ramirez
RP Rafeal Rodrigeuz
C Pete Alexander
2B Bernardo Velez
Bring the active roster up to 37 players.

GM Notes:
Starters ERA up, Bullpen ERA up, Def Eff. Down, not what I like to see... That is my bread and butter without the pitching defense I will have to rely on the offense and we are having some issues scoring runs. Starting to get nervous, missing 2 "big" bats doesnt' help us out.

Hamer (.292-2-7) and Gomez (.471-1-5) have helped with the loss of Anderson and Lewis showing me that maybe I don't need to be so nervous about my offense. I never really thought Gomez was going to make it to the bigs, but he made some noise last year in AAA and got a cup of coffee, but after this year, and his performance with the big club, he is going to get a good luck next spring. A solid 3B, but with questionable range, and a decent bat, he may make it easier moving Dooley or Anderson this fall. Dooley is arbitration eligible, Anderson is due $5. Plus he was a real disappointment for me his year (.290-11-56). I think I gave him too much money as well, in the contract we agreed to last year.

Contreras and Iemochi both have 19 wins, we will see if either one can hit 20. They both should get 1 more starts. Contreras however may get shut down a little early to prepare for the playoffs. Actually Miguel may be shut down, I am not 100% sure yet.

Dalton seems to be on a nice roll, which makes me feel better about him. It just when he is bad he is bad. He just went on a string of 7 games without giving up a run, can't really beat that. He is 47/54 in save opportunities, but the biggest difference that I have seen in Dalton over the years is his K's. His best is 13.16 K/9, and this year he is down to 10.49, only the 2nd time in his career where he has been under 11. The first was his rookie year, in 2013 when he posted 10.27. My faith in him is questionable...

With six game sto go Janchez needs 5 HR's to hit the 30/30 mark, its not looking good. But he shoudl be proud of his season he may even get an MVP vote or two in the end.

Around the League:
Standings Leaders
DE Southern: Lewes Braves 107-49 (+18/clinched)
DE Northern: Milford Clippers 82-74 (+4/M 3)
MV Eastern: Baltimore Barons 92-64 (+3/M 4)
MV Western: Norfolk Cavaliers 109-47 (+24/clinched)

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Francisco Reyes (Ocean City Tourists) 13-24, 4 HR's, 14 RBI's
MarVa: Domingo Valencia (Milton Brewers) 13-25, 3 HR's, 8 RBI's, 8 Runs

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (125.8)
2) Lewes Braves (122.5)
3) Baltimore Barons (110.2)
4) Ocean City Tourists (109.7)
5) Dover Generals (107.5)

News:
  • Robert Walker of the Lewes Braves won for the 23rd time, setting the record for the Delaware Conference for most wins in the season, and tying the all-time record. Jose Matos (2018, 2017) and Miguel Contreras (2017) are the only other pitches to reach win #23.
  • Francisco Reyes has been egnighted by his return to Ocean City. Hitting .313-18-64 in 88 games for Seaford, he was dealt to the Tourists and has been even better .318-26-75 in 67 games. If the Tourists, who sit 3 games back, make the playoffs, they can thank Reyes that is for sure. Combined Reyes is .315-44-139, which is an MVP season, but splitting it between the Delaware and MarVa Conference isn't going to help. At least I don't think so... anything is possible.
