Cavaliers News:
Injuries:
Alejandro Diaz is putting together a solid rookie campaign (.266-11-40), but he will miss the next 3 weeks after fracturing his thumb. He has slumped of late, but that is understandable.
We have called up our #1 pick from the 2019 draft Mark Bolton to be the back up. Bolton will split time with O'D, but O'D will be our primary starter.
Augusto Rodriguez: strained oblique, 2 weeks
Other/Roster News:
none
GM Notes:
Janchez now has 27 steals and 21 HR's, he is on pace to hit the 30/30 mark. He is putting together an awesome/surprising season. I knew he was good, but he has taken it to another level this season.
Here is a look at the all-time 30/30 club:
2013 Pablo Freitas (NFK) 31/33
2015 Roberto Perez (BAL/NFK) 31/42
2017 Roberto Perez (NFK) 34/54
Mark Bolton and Mario Gomez are doing their part, even if its only for a game or six. Gomez is show that he can play up with the big guys, last season in 5 games with the Cav's he went 2-17, this season in 6 games he is 12-24. The 22-year-old may end up with a permenant slot in the Cav's offense... Bolton had a debut to remember, going 4-5, and we will keep an eye on him. He may be force us to trade away O'D and keep Diaz and him as the 1-2 next season. I have questions about his bat, but if this is any indication it could have a good future in NFK.
My scout, Alexis Shelton, is telling me I have 5 guys in AAA ready to come up, and four of them are pitchers. The Yokohama team is #1 in the league again and is the favorite to win the Championship, so I am not sure who will get the call in September. I will bring up a couple of those guys such as Rafael Rodriguez and maybe a starter. Seems like we will have to free up some bullpen/rotation space this off-season.
Matt Hollis is on fire right now which makes me feel better about him, however, it will make it a lot harder to trade him if it comes to that. This rotation has been great and with the development of Paul Brown could be one of the top 3 rotations in Cavaliers history.
I gave Dalton Whitaker a nice extension to keep him Norfolk for the next 4 years, hopefully to close out his career here. And after a lights out May he has struggled... June: 0-1 5.84, 8 SV, July: 1-2 4.91, 6 SV, August: 0-1 5.40, 2 SV. I want that April/May version back.
