July in Review - 2022

Delaware Conference Monthly Awards

Bond Cops DEConf Batter of the Month Honors: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 27-year-old Claude Bond put together a solid offensive month for Dover and was crowned July's top batter in the Delaware Conference. He batted .367 with 10 home runs, 22 RBIs and 22 runs scored. Bond on the season is hitting .337 with 24 home runs. His stats include 82 RBIs and 69 runs scored.

Morán Gets July's Top Pitcher Trophy: Veteran Jorge Morán put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Lewes Braves, earning himself the Delaware Conference Pitcher of the Month award. Morán racked up a 4-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.16 ERA over 41.2 innings and striking out 36. To date this season, Morán has a record of 5 wins and 2 losses and a 2.29 ERA. He has appeared in 8 games and struck out 51 in 55 innings.

DEConf Selects Rookie Star of the Month: A veritable toddler to the Delaware Conference, Anthony Lucarelli just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for July. Over the past month the 20-year-old shortstop for Seaford hit .279 with 29 hits, 2 home runs and 14 runs batted in. He also logged 3 walks and compiled a .296 on-base percentage. Thus far this year Lucarelli has hit .250 with 5 home runs and 42 RBIs.

MarVa Conference Monthly Awards

MVConf's Top Hitter Named: When guys like Ocean City's Francisco Reyes win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive July, the longtime MarVa Conference veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 30 hits in 91 at-bats. The veteran first baseman hit for a .330 batting average and collected 8 home runs, 24 RBIs and 22 runs scored. On the year Reyes is hitting .311 with 128 hits, 24 home runs, 81 RBIs, .385 OBP and has scored 58 runs.

MVConf Top Pitcher for July Picked: Matt Hollis's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in July, the 30-year-old Norfolk hurler has been named MarVa Conference Pitcher of the Month. He fanned 37 in 39 innings, logged an ERA of 1.15 and allowed opponents to hit .148 against him. In 21 starts this season Hollis has rung up a 11-4 record and a 2.90 ERA.

MarVa Conference Names Rookie of Month: Youngster José López emerged as the latest MarVa Conference Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Chesapeake deserved the honor, batting .314 with 3 home runs and 17 runs batted in. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let López enjoy the limelight. López is hitting .307 this year with 12 home runs and 53 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .337, 15 walks and scored 45 times.

Standings as of August 1st, 2022

The Braves pitching of Walker and Diaz are carrying the Braves, but a big injury to Leonard Davis is going to hurt their offense as they try to keep the Generals at Bay. The Generals have one of the best offensives in the game right now, so it will be interesting to see if the Braves can hold them off. I had the Braves winning this division, but now I am not so sure.

The Clippers are starting to slump here in the 2nd half, as the Iron Pigs are starting to warm up. My money is still with the Clippers, but the Iron Pigs are going to have a lot to say about that before the end of the season. Can the Clippers return to where they were 2 months ago or is the their norm? If so the Iron Pigs may end up champs again in the Northern Division.

As the Tourists and the Barons are fighting over the top slot, the Blue Crabs made a deal getting themselves an ace that has put them right back in the middle of things. The Blue Crabs are the hottest team, the Tourists acquired the biggest name, and the Barons didn't do a whole lot. I think this is going to come down to a 2 team race between the Tourists and the Blue Crabs, but the Barons would like to prove me wrong.

The Cavaliers gained another 2 games, winning 15 games in July. The Cardinals are playing good ball, but they big lead the Cav's have is going to prove to be too much. The Cav's pitching staff isn't as good as it has been in the past, but its still the best in the league. With an 18 game lead the division is theirs if they can stay healthy.
