The Padres sign SS Chris McKinney to a 5 year, $48.5 million extension. So far this season the 26 year old is hitting .303 with 9 HR and 22 RBI, and has scored 41 times. Since entering the league in 2020, McKinney has grown as a player and his stats have improved every year. Now entering his prime, the Padres have locked him up with the hopes that he will contribute for years to come.

With the trading deadline looming, the Padres sit in 2nd place in the West, 6 ½ game behind the Dodgers. San Diego currently sits in the top spot for the Wild Card – 2 games ahead of the Phillies, and 4 games ahead of the Braves. Going into this season, San Diego was picked as one of the favorites to win it all, and while the team has played rather well, they have yet to exhibit the dominance that they’ve shown in years past. With the trade deadline creeping ever closer, will the Padres make a move to solidify their spot in the post season? Or does the front office believe that the current roster can get the job done? Whatever the case, all eyes now fall on GM Syrio Forel.
