June 2025
6/1/2025
The Padres trade 3B Ryan Mountcastle, LF Jamie Quinn, SP Guo-feng Liang, SP Henry Ryan, and a selection of draft picks to the Washington Nationals. In return, San Diego will receive a 2nd and 3rd round draft pick. Mountcastle and Quinn were both set to receive arbitration later this year, so the move grants San Diego a little more flexibility with their financial situation. Meanwhile, The Nationals address weaknesses at third base and left field.
Monthly Review
The Padres went 13-14 in the month of June, bringing their overall record to 43-32. The team sits in 2nd place in the West, 4 games behind the Dodgers. CF Brad Sutherland continues to dominate the offensive leader boards for the Padres, with a line of .308/.376/.621. Other notable offensive contributors include 1B Elroy Lachance (.303/.364/.431) and SS Chris McKinney (.295/.342/.437). The pitching staff has struggled to find their dominant form of last season. Beau Burrows, Eric Confer, and Robbie Erlin have all pitched well thus far, but the staff as a whole has not lived up to its promised potential.
