1B Joey Savin was placed on waivers and claimed by the Angels. The Padres’ 1st round pick in the 2016 draft performed well in AAA, but failed to produce at the big league level.
The Padres opened the season rather disappointingly, quickly falling 6 games back. However they ended the month of April with a 6 game winning streak – climbing back above .500 and into 2nd place. They enter May five games behind the Dodgers, who have posted an impressive 16-5 record to open the season.
San Diego Padre Chris McKinney earned himself a player of the week award by hitting .502 (13-25).
