2048 IPA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES - Game 2
Ruthlandian Union
RATTLERS EVEN SERIES, SMASH DIAMONDS 8-1
Favored Sugar Valley took a bashing in game one from underdog Claxton, but the Rattler bats were booming in game two... they walloped four roundtrippers and won going away 8-1 to even the Ruthlandian LCS at one game apiece... superstar player-manager Bobby Gamble went deep twice and got longball help from Roger Hobbs and Carl Ramsey, who hit solo salvos... Cullen Winslow (3-0/1.59) and three other relievers held the Diamonds to just one run and six hits... Winslow was the winner, giving up only one run on five hits in six and two-thirds innings, while fanning eight batters and walking two... Chris Dunsberry (0-0/0.00), Domenico Renterias (0-0/2.25/3 saves) and Alan Montreuil (0-0/0.00) got the final seven outs... Stan Yudash (1-2/6.93) took the loss, getting rocked for eight runs and 11 hits in seven and two-thrd frames... Yudash kept the score close 3-1 until the Rattlers let loose with five runs in the eighth.
RF Gamble (.269), 3B Hobbs (.259) and CF Ramsey (.258) all had two hits each... Gamble drove in three runs and 2B Richie Fry (.313) batted in a pair... LF Jeff Harvey (.417) went 3-4 and scored a run... Gamble has hit four out of the park in this postseason... 1B Jojo DeLucca (.308) doubled in Claxton's only score in the opening inning... DeLucca has 10 RBIs in the playoffs this year.
Tycobbian Union
REDS PREVAIL AGAIN IN GAME 2, DUMP SOX 7-4
Southport, the defending Pro Cup champ, is in trouble... Rolling Hills whipped them for the second day in a row, knocking off the Sun Sox 7-4... a six-run second inning was all Johnny Howard needed to defeat Southport... it wasn't a thing of beauty, but Howard (3-0/1.73) did a fair job in holding the Sun Sox to four runs and nine hits in a complete-game outing... he struck out five and walked four... not only have the Reds won the first two games of the best-of-seven series, they have easily handled Southport's best two pitchers, Billy Hoover and Johnny Swanson.
Luckily for Howard the Reds had enough punch to do away with the Sun Sox... they slapped loser Johnny Swanson (0-2/5.48) for all seven runs in five innings... LF Orin Phillips (.179) topped the Reds with two RBIs, while CF Will Sanders (.310) and SS Chris Hicks (.625) each had two hits and scored a run... Southport picked up nine hits and was led by CF Ross Good (.382) with two hits, including his second homer of the playoffs...LF Chris Jones (.192) and 1B Eddy Douglas (.289) also garnered a pair of hits apiece.
