1957-58 Offseason News and Notes
The 2nd straight sub par draft class. There isn't really anyone here that I am truly excited about entering the league. Frank Howard is picked 1st overall, and he's a solid pick, probably won't be a star though.
No Hall of Fame inductions again. No nominee's this time either. I like the game being stingy.
A interesting trade occurred just before the new season started, so I'm including it in the uneventful offseason post.
Slugger Norm Zauchin heads to Detroit, for 11th overall selection in this years draft, Ron Fairly. Zauchin platooned last season with young first baseman Jim Gentile. He's 2 years removed from hitting 50 home runs. This move gives Detroit the game's best offense. A order containing Mays, Mantle and Zauchin is scary, even to the Dodgers.
