It is correct if he didn't get a chance to have an official at bat then it doesn't count.

I think if he would have been up to bat with 2 outs and a runner on if the runner got caught stealing to end the inning it wouldn't count either since the at bat was never completed and he would have been first up the next inning.

If you want to get really technical and go strictly by the MLB rules sac flys and sac bunts, HBP, walks, interference that awards first base aren't credited as at bats. So you could claim they wouldn't count to end a hit streak if a player was only up to bat once (or more) that game and any of those happened. But then again both the media and MLB seem to count hit streaks against plate appearances, now, and not against official at bats so who really knows.

A at bat is only credited when the batter reaches base on a hit, records any out except for a sacrifice, reaches base on an error, or hits into a fielders choice.
