First, let's define terms. When you say "Real World," are you talking about the "NEW STANDARD GAME - Play with real 2014 rosters"? Because, if so, that's actually what is called a Quickstart Game that comes with OOTPB. It was designed by a team of guys who make judgment calls on such things as player ratings.

When you say "Historical," you used "NEW HISTORICAL GAME - Play any historical season (1871-2013)," correct? Well, the difference there is that you are creating a new game by calling up historical data that ships with OOTPB - I think it's called the Lahman's Database and it's a bunch of .csv files stored in this folder: Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 15\stats.

I don't play historical but from what I can gather, the game creates player ratings based on how you choose certain options, such as Base Current/Potential Ratings on . . . (read more about this here). This would explain why, in your "Historical" game, Russell Martin is rated differently than in your "Real" game.

As far as Polanco goes, I see he's in the "Real" game, which is a tribute to the makers of the MLB quickstart. He's not in the "Historical" game, however. Even though the minors are populated with many real players, it's not comprehensive. You can prove that by starting a new historical game and NOT requiring all minor leagues to have complete rosters. Only certain real players are included - the rest would be fictional if you did require full rosters. That's a drawback of the Lahman's Database, not OOTPB.

No. 3 is a good question. There is a personality factor in the game (assuming you are playing with this option turned on) called "Greed." In the "Real" game, those quickstart designers that I mentioned may have made a judgment call on these (or left them as randomly generated, perhaps). I have not a clue how personality traits are assigned in the "Historical" game but I strongly suspect that it is random. Personality traits in themselves are not part of the Lahman's Database, for sure.

You are going to love this game if you are the person indicated by your last paragraph. Yes, don't overdo it! It will eat up a ton of your time if you let it.
