1951 World Series

Chicago’s Jim Mallory keyed a late inning rally with a 2 run home run, but it ultimately fell just short, as the Giants hold on to win game one, 4-3. For the 2nd straight year, Ted Williams goes down early in the World Series. He hurts his wrist and will miss the rest of the season.

It took 9 innings, and a wonderful complete game from Eishiro Yoshie, but the White Sox were able to win game 2 with a 2 run, walk off home run from Willie Jones!

The Giants Art Johnson responds to Yoshie’s game 2 brilliance by one upping him in game 3. Johnson throws 9 innings, allowing just 7 hits, shutting out the Sox 1-0. Pitching is dominating!

Phil Rizzuto goes 4/4, with a 2 run home run , but that’s pretty much all the offense NY would get, as the White Sox tie the series with a 5-3 win.

Yoshie gets hammered in game five, allowing 5 runs over seven innings. The White Sox score 4 times in the 7th and 8th though, to send the game to extras. In the bottom of the 10th, Giants star Dick Wilson hits a walk off 3 run home run to put the squad on the brink!

The Giants offense explodes for 15 hits, 12 runs in a championship clinching 12-1 game 6 win!
