So what you're saying is that the AI decisions about hitting are disconnected from the AI decisions that follow those on offense?

Interesting. I haven't looked for this myself, but if this is a regular occurrence, it could cause serious problems in fielding percentages. But look on the bright side: That catcher might now have a SS rating!
