The pitching staff had another good month. Vaughan Griffith is slumping, as is Dalton Whitaker and I need both of those guys to turn it around. Dalton seems to struggle after the All-Star break every year. Hopefully August and September will be good for him. Its pretty sad that we only had 3 saves in July!
The offense had a pretty good month with Reyes, Brock and Lewis all driving in 20+ runs and hitting .290 and over. Joe Chambers had a hot month and Kent Davis was warming up before being shipped off.
The young kids in the outfield (Galvez, Janchez and Granados) will need to step it up in August. Hopefully Janchez won't be out too long. Galvez is getting a lot of time at first, with Gosselin struggling. Maybe its time to bring up Francisco Gallegos who is tearing it up down on the farm. Something to keep an eye out for in August.
I do need to stay healthy, when players like Janchez and Candelaria spend more time on the shelf than they do on the field then I am going to have issues.
We struggled in July winning only 16 games, and we pulled off a huge trade. It will be interesting to see what happens in August. Do the young guys step it up? Can the pitching staff carry this team? With a bunch of new guys will this team gel?
I feel more attached to this team after the deal, than I did before the trade. I was sad to see Arturo Ramirez go, but now with this overhaul I feel like the success over the rest of the season is on me. Win or lose I am too blame, especially if we just collapse over the final 60 games.
