Tuesday, June 4, 1878, at Cincinnati Reds (9-10 tied for 4th in the Liberty League)

Eb Burke is back behind the plate today. Wilson Schroeder, after hitting a home run, has gone cold as ice with his bat.

John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 13-6 2.34 0.8/2.9 BB/K) vs. Fred Cline, Cin. (36 R 8-5 2.51 0.8/2.1 BB/K)

Won - 11 to 3

Bendickson only allowed them 6 hits, but only went 7 today as we let Billy Jenkins pitch the final 2 innings. He only allowed them one hit and when 2 Sam Cowan errors loaded the bases with 1 out in the 9th, he pitched out of it without a scratch. He also hit an RBI double!

I switched me and Bill Rush, putting Bill in the 3 hole and moving me to 5th in the lineup. He had 2 hits and scored a run and stole a base. I had 2 hits, scored 2 runs and knocked in 2. Poppy had 2 hits with a double again, for the 3rd straight game. He had a RBI. SS Sam Cowan had 2 hits with a double. stole a base, scored twice and knocked in 2. C Eb Burke hit a double and a triple, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. The Schroeder experiment is officially terminated!

Other Games:
Providence (11) at Washington (3) - Will Taylor (12-8) over Bones Lane (4-16). LF Silver Borresen had 2 hits with a double, scored a run and had an RBI and an error. RF Lou Landaal had 3 hits, scored twice and knocked in 2. SS Jimmy Mark had 3 hits, stole a base, scored twice and knocked in 3. 3B Sam Clark had 3 hits and scored a run. If you are wondering why Manager George Dennis is sticking with Bones Lane, it is because his second best pitcher, Rufus Lee has an equally impressive record for London in the International Association: 3-14. If you are wondering why Manager George Dennis will not consider himself for the job, you'd have to ask him. He is 17-12 lifetime and 1-0 this season in a single start and a handful of relief appearances.

Brooklyn (7) at Boston (6) in 12 innings - Pop Yurkovich (9-11) over Charlie Morlock (0-1) in relief of Charlie Moss. Boston out-hit Brooklyn 16 to 11, but made 6 errors to the Atlantics' 3. 30-year-old rookie 2B Sam Thompson had 2 doubles, scored twice and knocked in a pair of runs. After Yurkovich allowed a lead-off single in the bottom of the 12th, Manager Mike Tonnies replaced him in the box with Buck Richards. Richards got 2 quick outs, but then gave up a single to right to 1B Frank Helms. The runner at first, Billy Little, tried to take third, but RF Guy Monaghan gunned him down to end the game. Charlie Moss had to take a seat on the bench after 11 innings with soreness in his forearm. They say he can probably still pitch with it and it will likely go away in a day or two or three.
