Tuesday, May 28, 1878, at Cincinnati Reds (9-9 4th in the Liberty League)

Cincinnati beat us 2 out of 3 at our place last time we met, but that was with Fred Cline in the box. Postema is 2-0 against us. In the first 2 games of last season, he won the Opening Day game in relief and then started the second and held us to 7 hits.

John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 11-6 2.44 0.8/3.0 BB/K) vs. Jim Postema, Cin. (28 R 1-2 4.00 1.3/3.7 BB/K)

Won - 6 to 3

Bendickson only allowed them 6 hits.

We had 9. Poppy had 2 with a double and scored twice. Got his average up over .200! CF Bobby Hubbard had 2 hits, stole a base and scored a run. SS Sam Cowan had 2 hits, scored a run and had an RBI. His average is now better than mine or Poppy's, though still not very good. But he finishes May with a .355 average for the month, more than double his April mark.

RF Dave Taylor sprained his elbow and will miss the next two weeks. We'll bring CF Stub Orlando up from Rochester and see what he can do.

Other Games:
Providence (5) at Washington (0) - Will Taylor (10-8) over Bones Lane (4-14). 3-hit shutout for Taylor with 5 strikeouts. RF Lou Landaal had 3 hits, scored a run and knocked in 2. Washington's one bright spot was that they did not make an error.

Brooklyn (6) at Boston (4) - Pop Yurkovich (8-10) over Charlie Moss (11-8). Boston out-hit Brooklyn 13 to 9, but made 6 errors to the Atlantics' 1, Yurkovich had a hit and 2 RBIs. RF Deacon Wilson had 2 hits with a double and scored twice.
