** End of June **

League News: International free-agents hit the market today, and due to me spending so much last season on Intl FA's and having no money available in the bank. I will not be able to sign any of the kids.

Transactions: Miguel Contreras is ready to come of the DL. He will be placed on the active roster and Armando Lopez will shipped back down to AAA. Lopez went 2-1 7.20 in 5 starts with the Cavaliers. Contrears is scheduled to pitch the next game against the Blue Hens.

Game 78: Christiana 4, Norfolk 2
Miguel Contreras (6-2) shouled little dust in his return from teh DL, going 7.2 innings, allowing 7 hits and 4 runs (3 ER). The offense just couldn't give him any support. Jeff Lewis lead the offense with 3 hits and 2 RBI's. On the day the offense only managed 6 hits and left 5 runners on.

Game 79: Christiana 2, Norfolk 4 (10 innings)

The Cav's collected 14 hits and left 7 on.

Injury Report: Kent Davis is out with an oblique strain and will miss 1-2 weeks. Davis will be sent to the DL and Ramon Granados will take over CF while he is out. RP Ivan Pineda has been called up to take the roster slot. I may need to add another outfielder to the roster. I will have to watch and see what happens.

Game 82: Washington 2, Norfolk 8
Matt Hollis (14-2) went 8.1 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 13. King Brock paced the offense with 2 hits, a HR (12) and double, and drove in 3. Jeff Lewis had 2 hits ans scored 2 times. The Cavaliers picked up 10 hits and left 5 men on.

League News:
  • Tony Garcia of the Dover Generals will miss the next 3-4 weeks after leaving yesterdays game with arm soreness. The official diagnosis is forearm tendinitis. Garcia is 5-4 3.44 in 16 starts this year.
  • Petere Peters of the New Castle Colonials had his hitting streak snapped at 21 games.
  • Jarred Perry the ace of the Lewes Braves suffered a set-back from his elbow injury. Instead of getting better, it took a step back. He is expected to miss a minimum of 6 weeks depending on how he reacts to treatment.
  • The Dover Generals signed starting pitcher Miguel Bravo to a prorated $1,490,000 contract for the rest of this year. Bravo was 10-12 4.42 in 26 starts last season in Ocean City.
  • Cliff Jones of the Chesapeake Blue Crabs extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a single in the first.
  • The Seaford Blue Jays shipped Brian Cline (.241-8-25) to the Salisbury Ports for 2B Tsuginori Ichikawa (.267-12-40). I am surprised Cline hasn't stayed anywhere for longer than 2 seasons. He is an above average fielder with decent power.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Doug Dook (New Castle Colonials) 10-24, 5 HR's, 9 RBI's
MarVa: Reynaldo Peralta (Ellicott City Express) 9-21, 3 HR's, 9 RBI's

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (148.1)
2) Newark Millers (113.2)
3) New Castle Colonials (111.6)
4) Lewes Braves (110.9)
5) Baltimore Barons (107.6)

GM Notes:
I am going to try to move Kent Davis before the trade deadline. The problem with that is I may have to take a little less than I had hoped for. Davis has lost some of his 'contact' rating and it seems to be really effecting him. He just isn't the same hitter he was in the past. Problem with trading Davis? He is very well known and unless I make the move for someone in the same realm he our fan base won't be happy... Before Davis got hurt I was shopping him and his $10M contract around, looking for prospects. I tried 5 times and not one can afford that kind of contract. I am guessing I am going to run into a lot of trouble trying to move anyone right now. Time to find a "free-agent" to be and pull something off that way... Miguel Contreras threw a pretty good game, but the Blue Hens pitchers just handcuffed our offense all series. I am glad he is back and I look forward to a wonderful 2nd half... We finally got a W in an extra-inning game, we pulled off two this week. After losing our first 6 on the season. I think the bullpen is just getting better as the season progresses... One more week till the All-Star break, it will be nice to get there, marking the 1/2 way point of the season. The team is playing well, so hopefully this won't slow us down.
