Tuesday, May 14, 1878, vs. Brooklyn Atlantics (5-9 5th in the Liberty League)

Pop Yurkovich, Bkln. (26 R 4-9 2.44 0.7/3.2 BB/K) vs. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 8-5 2.72 0.8/2.9 BB/K)

Lost - 4 to 1

We only had 5 hits and Brooklyn only made 2 errors. Our only run came on an inside-the-park homer by C Wilson Schroeder. He's got the job from Eb Burke for the time being. The only other hitter to do anything was 3B Bill Rush, who had 2 hits with a leadoff triple in the 4th, but was still standing at third when the third out of the inning was recorded.

Bendy was not sharp. Our defense played well. Bendy even walked in a run. If Abe Everette was healthy he'd be getting starts now.....

Other Games:
Washington (10) at Boston (12) - Charlie Moss (9-6) over Bones Lane (3-11). 34 hits by the two teams in this one. That's 65 hits over the past 2 games. Down 10 to 3, Boston scored 8 times in the bottom of the 7th to take the lead. 3B Sandy Perkes had 3 hits, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. RF Pete Green had 3 hits with a double, scored 3 runs and had 2 RBIs. 2B Billy Little had 3 hits with a double, scored a run and knocked in 2. 1B Frank Helms had 3 hits with a triple, scored twice and had an RBI.

Cincinnati (2) at Providence (5) - Will Taylor (9-5) over Roger Lake (0-3) in relief of Fred Cline. Taylor allowed only 6 hits and struck out 6. Fred Cline injured his shoulder in a collision with the catcher and will miss a couple of weeks. LF Silver Borresen had 2 hits, stole a base and scored 2 runs. 1B Ed Parton had 3 hits, including a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 7th to break a 2-2 tie. He had 4 RBIs.
