Tuesday, May 7, 1878, vs. Brooklyn Atlantics (5-7 5th in the Liberty League)

Were are 5-1 all-time against Yurkovich, all of the games back in '76 when he pitched for Philadelphia. When I was putting the Haymakers together back in the Winter of '75-76, I almost signed Yurkovich as my #1 pitcher. He is, without a doubt, the hardest throwing pitcher in baseball.

Pop Yurkovich, Bkln. (26 R 4-7 2.47 0.6/3.4 BB/K) vs. John Bendickson, Troy (26 R 6-5 2.94 0.9/3.1 BB/K)

Won - 5 to 2

Brooklyn out-hit us 8 to 6, but we only made 1 error and they made 5. It's the first time we've made fewer than 3 errors in a game this year and we only made as few as 3 once before today. Ends a streak of 10 games in a row with at least 4.

RF Dave Taylor had 2 hits with a triple, scored a run and had 2 RBIs.

4 of Bendy's last 5 starts have been really good and the 5th one wasn't too bad.

Other Games:
Washington (1) at Boston (13) - Charlie Moss (7-6) over Bones Lane (3-9). Moss held the Olympics to 7 hits. 2B Bill Thompson had 2 hits, stole a base, scored a run and had 3 RBIs. C Kip Kraft had 3 hits, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. CF George Kunz had 4 hits, stole a base, scored a run and had an RBI. 3B Sandy Perkes had 5 hits with a double, scored twice and had 2 RBIs.

Cincinnati (7) at Providence (4) - Fred Cline (8-3) over Will Taylor (7-5). Cincinnati with 17 hits off Taylor. C Jake Houghton had 3 hits, stole a base and scored 2 runs. CF Washington Macho had 3 hits with a double and 2 RBIs.
