June in Review (2020)

Delaware Conference Monthly Awards

DE Conference Batter of the Month Honors to Peters: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 27-year-old Peter Peters put together a solid offensive month for New Castle and was crowned June's top batter in the Delaware Conference. He batted .380 with 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and 24 runs scored. This year Peters is batting .306 with 81 hits, 17 home runs, 53 RBIs, 68 walks, .448 OBP and has scored 55 runs.

Matos Tabbed as June's Starter of the Month: José Matos's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 3-0 in June, the 33-year-old Milford hurler has been named Delaware Conference Pitcher of the Month. He fanned 33 in 36.1 innings, logged an ERA of 1.24 and allowed opponents to hit .197 against him. This year Matos has compiled a 6-3 mark with a 1.51 ERA in 16 starts.

DE Conference Selects Rookie Star of the Month: José Díaz is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Delaware Conference Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In June the Seaford hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .275 average with 28 hits, 2 home runs and 8 RBIs. For the year Díaz is hitting .258 with 2 home runs. His stats include 13 RBI and 18 runs scored.

MarVa Conference Monthly Awards

Jones Crowned Top MarVa Conf Hitter in June: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Lou Jones helped his contract negotiations by nabbing June's MarVa Conference Batter of the Month honors. The Virginia Beach first baseman put together a .378 batting average with 10 home runs, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Jones continues at this brisk pace. For the year Jones is batting .378 with 31 hits and 10 home runs. He has scored 17 times and driven in 19.

Iemochi MarVa Conf Winner, Top Hurler in June: Over the past month Takayuki Iemochi has turned quite a few heads. He's young, talented and able to pitch with the established arms in the MarVa Conference. He proved all that and now he's been named June's Pitcher of the Month. The rookie for the Norfolk Cavaliers posted 5-0 mark and a 2.02 ERA. In 5 starts he tossed 40 innings, permitted 28 hits and fanned 26 batters. This season Iemochi has compiled a 11-1 mark with a 3.20 ERA.

Joe Stone Captures Rookie of Month: June was a very good month for Joe Stone. The right fielder for the Ocean City Tourists was named the best newcomer in the MarVa Conference. He captured the honor by hitting .459 in 23 games with 28 hits, 2 home runs and 20 RBIs. Currently Stone is batting .324 with 3 home runs and 24 RBIs.

Standings as of July 1st 2020

The Dover Generals and the Lewes Braves are in a battle and with Dover missing their #2 for the next month, this could open the door for the Braves, who just happen to be missing their #1. The rest of the division has an golden opportunity to make a move.

The New Castle Colonials, lost one of the games best starters to free agency, then his replacement to injury, yet continue to win. The rest of the division is hanging, and I wouldn't count any of them out just yet. This could be a really fun race.

The Eastern Division looks to be reverting back to the good ole days, when 3 team races were the regular, but this year they have four teams battling or the top spot! This is a "pick-em" Division right now. I am rooting for the Barons, but really I just don't want Annapolis to win again.

The Cavaliers have turned things around after a rocky first month and are in dominating phase right now. We survived the loss of Contreras and now we try to stay healthy and see what happens.
