2020 First Year Draft

2020 First Year Player Draft
With the #1 pick in the 2020 Draft the Virigina Beach Surf Dawgs take center-fielder Will Hayes from Farleigh Dickinson College. Will is looking for $2,200,000 to sign on. During his collegiate season will hit .313-11-63. Known for his great defensive ability and runnning speed. The 20 year old is a 4* prospect (current 1*). Alexis Shelton sees Will Hayes as "a future big-league regular, but he's got the talent to exceed even that projection". Now we will see if the Surf Dawgs can sign him.
Contact: 4/8; Gap: 9/12; HR: 4/9; Eye: 5/8; K's: 7/16

** Edmond Scott goes #3 to the Wilmington Iron Pigs. We will keep an eye on him to see what he signs for, or if he even does.
Stuff: 7/11; Movement: 13/15; Control: 7/14; GB%: 60%; Stam: 18

2020 Norfolk Cavaliers Draft:
Round 1: Pick 15

Alexis Shelton Recommendation: Bernard McCormick 3.5* Prospect
19 years-old; Durable; Very Easy; HS
Stuff: 6/12; Movement: 10/13; Control: 3/10; GB%: 56%; Stam: 11
Who I am Leaning towards: Michael Russel, 3.5* Prospect
20 years-old; Durable; Extremely Hard; College
Contact: 7/10; Gap: 6/9; HR: 5/12; Eye: 5/9; K's: 4/10

I decided to go with Michael Russel (15th). Along with ratings above he is a 20 LF, 14 CF, 13 RF, 16 Speed, 12 Stealing. He hit .296-10-43 for Oregon St last year. I don't think we will have any issues signing him.

Round 2: Pick 14
Nathan Esparza (39th), SS, HS Philadelphia

Highest rated potential player around. Questions about his hitting, but should be a decent fielder. Durable; Extremely Hard; HS
Contact: 6/10; Gap: 4/7; HR: 4/6; Eye: 4/10; K's: 3/13
Speed: 14; Stealing: 17; Defense is all 14+
During HS he hit .457-0-30
Work Ethic: High

** From here on out I went with Scouts Recommendation **

Round 3: Pick 20
CF Ron Howard (63rd)
out of Lane HS in Brooklyn
1* Potential, 18 yrs old, CF
Not much to say about this guy, just shows you how light this draft is.
Contact: 1/5; Gap: 6/10; HR: 1/5; Eye: 1/4; K's: 3/8
He is an average outfielder with great speed.
Lane HS: .429-1-28

Round 4: Pick 20
Maurice George (84th)

1/2* Potential, 18 years-old, SP
Stuff: 6/10; Movement: 9/10; Control: 1/4
Stamina: 17, GB%: 53%
He does have 3 pitches with 10+ potential.
Mepham HS: 13 GS, 9-1 1.74 103.2 IP, 136K

Round 5: Pick 20
Paul Morrissey (104th)

1* Potential, 22 yrs old, SS
Contact: 6/8; Gap: 5/6; HR: 2/3; Eye: 4/6; K's: 3/6
A good fielder and base runner. Will he be able to hit?
St John's College: .260-2-48

Round 7: Pick 20
Bobby Flynn (144th)

1* Potential, 18 yrs old, Catcher
Contact: 2/5; Gap: 7/10; HR: 1/6; Eye: 1/3; K's: 4/9
Not really sure why Alexis picked this guy, but its always nice to have another catcher around... I guess.
Union Springs HS: .432-1-26

Round 9: Pick 20
Robbie Rogers (184th)

1/2* Potential, 20 years old, SP
Stuff: 5/7; Movement: 6/6; Control: 3/5
He can throw a lot of innings, but I am not sure he will have a bright future.
Sussex County CC: 16 GS 5-8 5.83, 1.75 WHIP

I noticed that everyone Alexis drafted was from NY or NJ. I will have to keep an eye on that for next year. Wonder if he has some crazy in-game NY/NJ ties.
