The #1 Draft Picks of the Past

The DelMarVa Baseball League has been around since 2013 and this years draft marks the 8th draft in DBL history. Here is a look at the past 7 #2 overall draft picks, from the All-Stars to the Busts to the Prospect... A look back.

2013 - Jorge Moran, Starting Pitcher, drafted #1 by the Chesapeake Blue Crabs out of Columbia U. He signed for $4,750,000. Moran is a 2 time all-star and he won his first Golden Arm Award last season with the Milton Brewers. Signed a 5-year deal with the Lewes Braves this off-season for $80,000,000.

2014 - Gabriel Santos, Starting Pitcher, drafted #1 by the Norfolk Cavaliers out of highschool. He signed for $4,500,000. Finally made the bigs in 2019 out of the bullpen. Once a top pitching prospect, now nothing looks like he will be a solid middle-man.

2015 - Phil Carlson, Starting Pitcher, drafted #1 by the Lewes Braves out of high school. He signed with the Braves for $9,060,000. Phil's control has never developed and it looks like he will be career minor leaguer.

2016 - Will Riley, Catcher, drafted #1 overall by the Ellicott City Express out of Vanderbilt U. Signed a $9,190,000 signing bonus. The first non-pitcher taken as the #1 pick. Made a quick trip through the minors and came up and won the Newcomer of the Year Award. Solid player, will be a due a big payday when he hits free-agency.

2017 - Cornell Pearson, SP, drafted by the Seaford Blue Jays with the first pick in 2017, out of Creighton. He signed a $8,250,000 deal. Cornell will be an ace of the future and he is hoping to get out of Seaford soon, or hopes that Seaford can turn things around. Much better than his record shows, but has very little support.

2018 - Pablo Garcia, SP, Salisbury Ports, was drafted out of Oral Roberts University and signed for $7,700,000. Garcias spent one year in the minors then came up with a bang and had a solid rookie campaign. He should win a Golden Arm or two in the future. Like Pearson, wishes his team was a little better.

2019 - Shunen Koyama, RF, Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs, drafted out of U of New Mexico and signed for $4,500,000. After a slow first year in A-ball has stepped it up a notch and is ready for his move to AA. Currently the #59 prospect in the DBL.
