Game 46: Norfolk 12, Richmond 3
Miguel Contreras (6-1) threw 8 innings of 2-hit ball, allowing 2 runs, while striking out 6. Kent Davis came back in full force going 3-5 with 2 runs and 3 RBI's. Cody Johnson stroked 4 hits and scored 3 times. King Brock (4) and Francisco Reyes (13) both went deep. The Cavs totaled 15 hits and left 8 men on base.
Injury News: Maik Wassink is ready to come off the DL. He will be added to the active roster and Emilo Gonzalez has been waived/DFA'd. I am curious if there will be any interest in him. Emilio is 29 has no position, last year was a 5 at SS, and was 0-6 during his NFK tenure... Wassink will head back out to 2B, and Mario Reyes will return to back-up duties. Mario slumped as a starter and is now hitting .221-2-9 in 68 AB's.
Game 47: Norfolk 14, Richmond 1
Matt Hollis (9-1) continued to truck along, going 9 innings, allowing 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 9. Jeff Lewis lead the offense with 3 hits, 3 runs and 3 RBI's, including an HR (7). King Brock (5) and Francisco Reyes (14) each went deep. The offense collected 17 hits and left 6 men on.

Joe Chambers was the star for the offense, going 3-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI's, including a 2B and a solo-HR (5). The Cav's picked up 11 more hits and left 11 me on.

The offense was lead by Kent Davis who had 3 hits, and the bullpen was saved by John O'Donegan who hit a PH-game tying HR (4) in the bottom of the 9th. The Cav's got back to hitting, with a 12 hit day, bu tleft 13 runners stranded.
Injury News: 43 pitches into the game Miguel Contereras limped off the field. During the game he was examined and it was determined that he will miss 4-5 weeks with a strained hamstring. This is a HUGE blow to us. On the season Miguel is 6-1 1.54 in 11 games... This is the longest timeframe that Miguel has ever missed during his 8 year career.
Cavaliers Lose Contreras for 4-5 Weeks: Dealing with injuries is part of the game, and now Miguel Contreras of the Cavaliers knows this firsthand. He was injured against the Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs while throwing the ball. Because of a hamstring strain, the Norfolk starting pitcher is expected to miss 4-5 weeks. Contreras was a little upset, but understands it comes with the territory. "Baseball can be a contact sport. You try to be careful, but no matter how careful you are, injuries happen." This season-to-date, Contreras has fashioned a 6-1 mark and 1.54 ERA in 70 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .172 against him and he has logged 74 strikeouts.

GM Notes:
Well now we get to see what this team is made of without one of our aces, and on top of that Tatayuki Iemochi took a little development dip, losing some of his control. I am going to go with rookie Armando Lopez to fill in the hole, I really want to bring up Paul Brown, but his control is under 10 (of 20) and I have a thing about starters and their control. He is up to 8 now, after taking a 4 hit drop from 11 at the end of the year last season. One thing we have going for us is our division is pretty bad... Offensively we are starting to come around with the big guys Brock and Reyes hitting the ball well. I am not sure what is going on with Ed Duke as he seems to have lost some of his power. Am I sitting him too much? Something to consider, maybe... I have said this a few times, about not having much faith in this team and now its time for them to prove me wrong. The next month will really be telling, and I am actually looking forward to it, but I will miss Miguel. At 32 hopefully he isn't starting to break down. He has started at least 31 games every season.
Up next is the May in review then the first years player draft...
