Breaking Trade News
I was going to wait until I did my weekly recap, but I felt this deal deserved it's own post. This game, or at least this incarnation of it, really seems to value 2B Mike Andrews highly. I have put him out there on the trade block and gotten offers of C Johnny Bench and SP Steve Carlton. I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on those as it felt too easy. (Mind you, I have trading on hard, favor prospects).
Knowing that I had drafted Hal McRae in the first round, #5 overall this past draft however, meant that Andrews was going to be dealt sooner or later, and I found a trade, that seemed to make sense for both parties, and didn't leave me feeling like I took advantage of the Braves, as they are in rebuilding mode.
To Atlanta: 2B Mike Andrews, SP Ken Brett, RP Carroll Sembera, and C Mike Ryan
To Boston: SP Phil Niekro, C Rico Carty
I immediately fix two gaping holes in my roster, my Starting Rotation and C. Atlanta had been running out Woody Woodward and his .228/.269/.259 in 290 AB's all year and needed an upgrade. Andrews, and his .345 OBP become the Braves leadoff hitter. In the process, Atlanta also becomes younger, picking up the 23 year old Andrews, as well as the 24 year old Sembera, 25 year old Ryan and 18 year old Brett, who has middle of the rotation stuff and potential.
The overview and career stats for the main parties involved are below:
