At this point it would be hard to imagine where we would be without this staff pitching as well as they are. And there is still some room for improvement for soem of these guys. I am going to keep my eye on Ernesto (who I referred to Enrique, last write up) and see if he has what it takes. He has been hit around in his spots this year. Other than him, I am at a wait and see.
On the Watch List:
Ernesto Beneques
Dan Nelson
The offense is just a mess right now. I think I am going to have to do some tinkering to get something started. The first thing I am going to do is shipping John Phillips down to AAA and calling up John O'Donegan, who is hitting .323-5-18 down on the farm. I had John playing 3B down in AAA, and he looked really bad (5 E's / .853 FPCT).
The way Yann is hitting, expect him to get his number called more often this month. Mario Reyes has been a surprise so far. And we have two regulars hitting under .200. Ramon Granados will start seeing some more tiem as Sergio Galvez takes more time off, even though he is hitting the long-ball I still need more than a .183.
Look at those numbers are cry, laugh, whatever it is you want to do, but one thing is for certain, there is no way we can pull off a Championship, not even a divisional title, with an anemic offense like this.
I just don't have the big-league ready depth to play this poorly. My hands are tied on the moves I can make, so here is hoping to a turn around and a stronger May than April. The 13 win month, might be the worst month I have had in Norfolk in the past 3 years.
