1893 Rookies

Jimmy Bannon, RF, Age 21, Cardinals

Bannon is part of an exciting influx of new offensive talent for St. Louis. He will immediately take the starting job in right field and bat 3rd in the lineup. He plays solid defense and has good speed to go along with an explosive bat. He and his fellow Cardinal rookies could be all the team needs to become a pennant favorite.

Bill Lange, CF, Age 21, Cubs

Lange has the unenviable task of taking over the starting second baseman's job from Chicago legend Ross Barnes. However, only the Cubs would be able to replace a Hall of Famer with another young hitter with nearly identical potential. Lange is not the same type of hitter as Barnes, but he could have similar impact on the team. While Barnes hit for a higher average and accumulated many extra-base hits, Lange will hit for more home run power and steal a lot more bases. Barnes was better defensively in the infield, but Lange actually has the distinction of being a fine defensive outfielder and centerfield is his primary position. However, he may never see the outfield due to the team's glut of talent there.
