A forum section would be the smallest step they have to take.. I think they should aim a lot bigger to promote their games in the long run.
Let people create their own blog with a single click straight from the game if they want. ....all people who do, will get their own tiny 'limited' website to control behind the OOTP toplevel domain inside a _dynasty section, where of course you can follow each other and read about how other gamers play the game.
You can even ask a small fee for hosting and support nobody would care if it works and people can alter-/personalize their website-/dynasty a little bit with custom banners and colors.
Looking even more in the future you could auto-connect an affiliate_ID to each blog created so when gamer X sells a game for you trough their website they get a discount at the yearly hosting costs.
This is all looking way in the future and would take lots of time to create but you could start small by giving them ( or only a small group of serious gamers at the beginning ) their own blog and let them create content for you in a fun way ( their own words ) not promotion or marketing talk nobody likes to read.
Imagine this scoring overview would be a hockey trade overview blog post simply created by
