2046 IPA PRO CUP FINAL SERIES - Game 7
HELLCATS HAUL IN FIRST PRO CUP
Staked to a 4-0 lead in the first inning Gil Younger made it stand up as Hartsdale wrapped up its first Pro Cup title with a 4-1 win over Valmara in game seven of the IPA championship series at Pioneer Park... Younger (5-3/3.09) hurled nine sharp innings, stopping the Vipers on just five hits and one run, posting five Ks and walking three... the batting heroes for the Hellcats were Frank Penn (.293) and Myrt Breland (.292), who drove in a pair of runs each in the opening inning salvo, sending Primo Sirak (5-3/2.07) down to defeat, even though he only allowed two earned runs and five hits... Sirak went the distance, fanned six and walked four.
Hartsdale got great pitching at home from Perry Givens in game six and Younger in game seven to come back from a three games to two deficit to capture the title.
"We've been trying over 40 years to win this rascal and we finally did it." Winning manager Jud Turchin hoisting the Pro Cup trophy over his head and complimented his entire team saying, "Everyone played his role and contributed to getting this... Gil, Kippy, Perry and Alfonso all excelled on the mound and all of our eight regulars came through at one time or another at the plate for us... especially Robinson with his 21 RBIs and 6 homers in the playoffs... Valmara was a very worthy opponent... Twardzik and Sirak are really special pitchers and tough to beat... it took us seven games, but we did it."
Viper skipper Vanya Vasylenko lamented not winning game seven, but he was proud of his team's effort. "We came as close as you can get and not win the Pro Cup... we pushed them to seven games... we just fell one game short of being the best baseball team in Islandia."
