2046 IPA PRO CUP FINAL SERIES - Game 1
HELLCATS HANDLE VIPERS IN PRO CUP OPENER 5-1
The powerful Hartsdale Hellcats handled Valmara rather handily in the opening game of the 2046 Pro Cup Finals... they had no trouble with left-handers Primo Sirak and George White, collecting 10 hits off of them in a 5-1 triumph... 28-game winner Gil Younger (4-2/2.94) tossed another fine game, stopping the Vipers on four hits, striking out five and walking none in an almost flawless performance... loser Sirak (4-2/2.01) was hit hard for five runs and seven hits in his seven innings.
The Hellcats put three runs on the board in the last of the fourth on a two-run double by SS Robinson Alomar (.327) and an error by third baseman Jose Vargas (.314) accounted for the third score... Hartsdale added two more in the sixth on an RBI single by LF Marv Shaw (.283) and a sacrifice fly by pitcher Gil Younger (.286)... Valmara's only run came on a solo clout in the eighth by LF Jacek Prusak (.295)... it was his fourth of the playoffs.
The leading bats for the Hellcats were Alomar with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs and Shaw with two runs batted in... 2B Myrt Breland (.333) and Younger pitched in with two hits each.
