The spritze db is great. use it almost exclusively for historical
The problem I find is if you try and use the same number of actual teams (ie 16 trough 1960). There are just too many extra really good players that due to the way the game generates its stats output, means players hit-pitch far lower than real life.
I feel the need to add 6-8 teams to the game. i have a 24 team world 1891-1961 for example, then expand 2 in 61. 2 in 64, 2 in 68, 2 in 69. So by 1969 my world sill is +8 teams, now 32 teams...
I also tend to. due to a minor league having a 55 HR year in his stats listed in say 1911, to sometimes drop the HR level of the oddity- I am making a list to know when to catch. Also the way the game rates pitchers- superstars like Johnson, Mathewson ect tend to be very good not great, so each year (I play recalc) i up the GB % of the best real 4 pitchers that year by +15 to make them more realistic dominent.
As the wolf says, its your game play it your way, just dropping a few things to think about from what I have found over the years of playing...
