Annapolis Admirals Preview
In this league the Annapolis Admirals would be considered the "Evil Empire" with the #1 budget ($216,000,000) and the #1 payroll ($193,080,000) they seem to be able to buy who ever they want (or need). Owner Ramon Vazquez, Jr. is a very lenient and Charitable owner, and all he wants is a Championship, something that has eluded the Admirals as of now. In their 6 years, the Admrials have won their division 4 times and have amassed a career winning pct of .578 (577-421). The are predicted to win the division yet again this season, but are currently 2nd after a slow April.
The Admirals are managed by Ken Moore. Ken has been with the Admirals since 2015 and is in his 5th year. He has never won less than 93 games and holds a .591 (398-276) winning pct as a manager. Before coming to Annapolis he was the bench coach for the Milford Clippers.
The Admirals are the home to one games most dominate pitching stars. Signing a 6 year/$108,100,000 deal during the off-season, leaving Wilmington, Marcos Estrada has the ability to take over and dominate any game. He is the only pitcher in the game with 100 wins and 1500 K's, and at the age of 31 there doesn't seem to be an end near. He is a 2x time 20 game winner and 2x Golden Arm award winner. Off to a hot start this season (3-1 2.94), he looks to be well on his path to another dominate year. For his career Marcos is 112-49 2.61.
The Admirals also opened up their pockets and brought in the games premier slugger. One more HR to go and Abraham Thomas will be the first man in DBL history to reach the 300 HR plateau. Abraham signed to play in Annapolis for 3 seasons for a total of $59,600,000. The Admirals are Thomas' third big-league club, following the Richmond Cardinals and Washington Senators. He has lead the league in HR's 4 times, RBI's 4 times and Total Bases 3. Last season could of been one of the best seasons of all time, when Thomas hit .321-60-155. I still surprised he didn't win the batter of the year.
The Admirals also have man who beat Thomas out of that Silver Slugger award, Glenn Jenkins. Jenkins is now in his 2nd year in Annapolis after signing a 3 year $55,800,000 contract. He repaid the Admirals by hitting a record .383 last year, which saw him post an OBP of .505! Jenkins and Thomas are one of the most feared 3-4 hitters in the game.
With the money to buy the players they want its not surprising that the Admirals only have an average farm system (12th out of 20). They won't need any young guys filling voids as long as the older guys can stay healthy. This team will get on base and score a lot of runs, could they be the next 1000 run team? Quite Possibly. Do they have enough pitching? That is the big question.
