April 11, 2014 - Yankees vs. Red Sox (Game 11)

Starting lineup
CF - Jacoby Ellsbury (.250, 2, 7)
SS - Stephen Drew (.500, 0, 0)
RF - Alfonso Soriano (.229, 1, 6)
C - Brian McCann (.216, 1, 6)
1B - Mark Teixera (.250, 0, 3)
DH - Derek Jeter (.208, 1, 2)
2B - Brian Roberts (.280, 2, 9)
LF - Brett Gardner (.200, 0, 1)
3B - Yangervis Solarte (.261, 2, 7)

SP - CC Sabathia (2-0, 0.60)

Game 2 of a four game set versus the Red Sox featured CC on the mound against Jon Lester. Lester entered the game with a 1-0 record and 5.02 ERA.

After two and a half innings it seemed like it was a going to be a low scoring game with a 0-0 tie. So with Brett Gardner up with one out I had him bunt for a base hit, and he moved to third on a single by Yangervis Solarte. Both runners came home to score on a single by Stephen Drew to give us a 2-0 lead.

But the Red Sox would chip away at the lead with a solo home run by David Ortiz in the fourth, and in the fifth they tied the game up on an RBI single by Dustin Pedroia.

A Mike Napoli solo home run in the 6th inning put the Red Sox up 3-2. Lester and four relievers shut us down the rest of the game though, and we lost our second straight game to the Red Sox 3-2.

Heroes

This is never a fun category when you lose, but Solarte was 2-3 at the plate, and Stephen Drew picked up a big 2 run single.

CC Sabathia didn't really pitch bad either - 7 2/3 IP, 6 H, 1 BB, 9 K, and David Robertson pitched 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief.

Goats

Another 0-4 night for Alfonso Soriano to drop his average to .205 for the season, and an 0-4 night for Brian McCann to drop his average to .195.

----------

It's hard to believe that the Yankees are tied for 5th in runs scored. Of course our batting average and OBP is 11th in the league. Not to place blame on someone who has only played in 2 games this year, but Francisco Cervelli was sent down and JR Murphy was recalled. He'll get the start tomorrow as we spell McCann.
