Breaking News: Towers Out as Vuch Named New GM of Arizona

Big changes are coming to the Arizona Diamondbacks as John Vuch has been named the 6th General Manager in franchise history. They are hoping to bring the winning tradition of the St. Louis Cardinals to the Diamondbacks after back to back seasons of playing .500 baseball and falling below expectations.

John Vuch is in his 26th season in Baseball Operations. He held the title of Farm Director for the St. Louis Cardinals from September 2010 through the 2013 seasons, and during that time oversaw Championships for three teams [Quad Cities (A) & Johnson City (R) in 2011, Springfield (AA) in 2012]. The championships in Quad Cities and Johnson City in 2011, marked the first time since 1994 multiple Cardinals minor league affiliates won league championships, and the 2012 Springfield Cardinals team was recognized as the Minor League Team of the Year.

Under his leadership, the 2010 Cardinals Minor League system had the highest combined winning percentage of any Major League organization. The Cardinals were recognized as the 2011 Organization of the Year by Baseball America and heading into 2014, the Cardinals organization has been recognized for its scouting and player development by Baseball America, MLB.com and ESPN.com.

As Director of Minor League Operations, a position he held for more than three years from 2007-2010, Vuch was responsible for the daily operations of the Cardinals' farm system and is involved with the club's minor league player personnel decisions. Vuch has worked several years in the player development department, serving as the main contact for Cardinals' minor league players. He began working for the Cardinals as a "runner" in 1979 and worked in the Sales Department from 1985 to 1987.

John Vuch met with reporters as he began his tenure as the new GM of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"To be frank," he admitted, "I expect a tough haul these first few months. I've got to assess this club from the ground up-- the whole organization. Until I do that, this club is very vulnerable."

Vuch urged the media to have restraint, as it will take some time to implement his strategy, and develop a perennial winner.
