My responses to bwburke94's points.
#1. Disagree. Baseball has always listed the standings relative to the division leader. This was true when the minor leagues used the Shaughnessy playoff format, and it's true today for the minor league playoffs.
#2. There should be no wild card standings at all since there are (technically) no wild card qualifiers. It's the top teams from the smaller divisions and the top two teams from the larger divisions. In other words, it's a position-based playoff qualifying system.
#3. See above.
#4. Only for the wild card standings, or a "playoff qualifiers" or equivalent standings display (the latter being the screen for position-based playoff qualifiers such as bwburke94 is using).
#5. Paterson is tied in games behind, and it should be listed that way. It has a lower position due to its (very slightly) worse winning percentage. There are multiple examples of this in baseball history. (There are even cases where a team is has no games behind yet is listed in second place due to it having a slightly worse winning percentage than the club that has games behind. This only crops up rarely, due to a difference in games played between the clubs.)
It does raise the larger point of how clubs should be ordered in the standings. In baseball, there are three ways this has been done: (1) by the number of wins; (2) by winning percentage; and (3) by games behind. Each of these can result in a different order of standings depending on the records of the clubs, though if all teams play the same number of games the three will be identical.
