MarVa Conference Championships Preview
The Admirals and the Cavaliers finished the season splitting a four game series, with the Cav's winning the last two. Annapolis, however, comes into the post season red hot winning 8 of their last 10. The Cav's are hot as well, winning 7 of their last 10. The big difference is health, the Cav's have some injuries, and the Admirals are pretty much at full health.
Injuries:
Annapolis:
Diego Fuentes (SS) - .265-6-47 (out for season)
Norfolk:
Mauro Candelaria (1B) : .301-4-53 (out for season)
Shanw Brock (SP) : 12-5 2.73 (out for season)
Kent Davis (CF) : .376-5-73 (6 days)
Ivan Pineda (MR) : 9 G 1-0 3.15 2 SV (out for season)
Kent is our lead-off man so that will hurt as we will have to find someone to replace his .400+ obpct.
Both teams have been to the playoffs 4 times, with Annapolis making it in 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2018, and Norfolk making it 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Annapolis has lost to the Cavaliers the last 2 seasons and our out to reach their first Championship. The Cav's have won 3 titles and are trying to win their fourth, but can we stop the Admirals??
Our pitching rotation is set-up to go with our 1-2 on the bump for games 1 and 2. We hope Arturo is ready for game 3, but we will see, if not we have Griffith and Reilly nipping at the bud.
I am nervous heading into the series, with Davis out, and us beating Annapolis the last 2 seasons... going to make for an interesting series. Since our pitching is lined up, I am going to say we hold the advantage, even if Contreras and Matos weren't at their best against the Admirals this season.
Last Season Contreras we 3-0 0.38 in the playoffs and Matos was 1-1 2.57 in 2 starts and 1 relief appearance... I like this team, we have had a fairy tale season, and I think it will continue, but it won't be easy...
My prediction Norfolk in 6.
