Next Week: 1 @ Salisbury Ports, 4 @ Ellicott City Express, 2 vs Richmond Cardinals
Power Ranking: 1
Fan Interest: 85 (+1)
Owners Mood: Ecstatic

Runs Scored: 687 (1st)
Avg: .311 (1st)
Runs Against: 314 (1st)
Starters ERA: 2.77 (1st)
Pen ERA: 2.73 (1st)
Def Eff: .715 (1st)

Transactions: Derek Campbell has been activated from the DL and is expected to play today versus Baltimore. Ivan Pindea was placed on the 15-day DL, and Bryan O'Neil was pulled off of Waivers and placed back on the Cav's roster. We will go with 11 pitches for now, with Ron Harris, Derek Carter, Jamie King and Elmer Hawkins needed to pick up the slack with Pineda out... Campbell with take over in LF, moving Chong to the bench. Chong was 4-10 so far this season will see more AB's, but not as a starter. O'Neil will be our 5th out-fielder. His status on the roster is temporary, if we need more pitching or another infielder he will be moved. Just have to make due with what we have. Losing Mauro Candelaria is a big blow.

Game 100:
Baltimore 10, Norfolk 8
Ron Reilly (ND) went 6 innings, but got hit hard when he came out for the 7th, for the game he gave up 6 runs (4 in the 7th) on 6 hits. Jamie King took the loss, giving up a run. Will Rose finished off the game going 3 innings, allowing 2 more runs. The Cav's were lead by Roberto Perez who had 5 hits adn 2 runs. Jeff Lewis added 3 hits and Mike Ford added 2 hits and 3 RBI's. Ford (2), Ed Duke (21) and Jesus Rivera (11) all had HR's.

Injury News: Ivan Pineda was diagnosed with a torn flexor tendon in his elbow and will miss about 7 months. He, as with most of my relivers this season, wasn't used much, pitching in 9 games posting a 1-0 record with a 3.15 ERA and 2 Saves... Right now I am going with 11 pitchers, I am leaning towards bringing another up, but I will see how it goes.

Game 101:
Baltimore 0, Norfolk 2
Miguel Contreras (13-1) looked as good as every going 7.1 innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 12. Dalton Whitaker went the 9th for the save (26). The offense wasn't great, but it got 2 runs across the plate, with Kent Davis and King Brock leading the way with 2 hits each. Roberto Perez and Jeff Lewis each had an RBI.

Hitting Streak Update: Jeff Lewis had his hit streak stopped today. Jeff went 0-3 ending his 36 game streak, the 2nd longest in DBL history.

Game 102:
Baltimore 5, Norfolk 8
Jose Matos (16-2) went 6.1 innings, allowing 8 hits and 4 runs. Dalton Whitaker pitched the 9th for the save (27). Mike Ford lead the offense going 3-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI, including a HR (3). Jeff Lewis added 2 hits.

Game 103:
Norfolk 6, Salisbury 1
Arturo Ramirez (15-2) went 8 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run, to continue his remarkale freshman season. Kent Davis had 2 hits and 2 runs, Roberto Perez had 2 hits and 2 RBI's, Derek Campbell added 2 RBI's and Ed Duke went deep (22).

Game 104:
Norfolk 9, Salisbury 7
Shawn Brock (11-3) ended his 6 game winless streak (0-2) with another solid performance, going 7.1 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs. Will Rose gave up 4 runs in 1 inning of work, but Dalton Whitaker was able to close the door (28). Jeff Lewis lead the way with 3 hits, 3 Runs and 2 RBI's, including a HR (20). King Brock added 2 hits and 3 RBI's, with a HR (17) and Mike Ford hit a 3-run HR (4).

Hitting Streak Update: Kent Davis went 0-3 to end his hitting spree, at 28 games. He is currently hitting .402 on the season.

Game 105:
Norfolk 9, Salisbury 1
Ron Reilly (11-4) went 8.2 innings, throwing 122 pitches, allowing 4 hits and 1 run, while striking out 10. Jeff Lewis lead the offense with a 4-5 day, scoring 4 times and driving in 3, including a HR (21). King Brock and Jesus Rivera each had 3 hits. Roberto Perez and Kent Davis added 2. Rivera and Perez drove in 2.

Around the League:
  • In a shocking deal the Chesapeake Blue Crabs traded away their 28 year old ace for 3 prospects. Moran was due about 9 million next season. He is a 2-time 20 game winner, and possibly the best lefty in the game. He was 8-4 2.48 with the Blue Crabs this season.
  • Grant Wright of the Lewes Braves is out 3 weeks with a strained oblique. Write was hitting .291-3-24 at the time of the injury.
  • The Baltimore Barons sent Tony Soto the Milton Brewers for a 4* starting pitcher. Soto was hitting .253-8-28 at the time of the deal.
  • The Seaford Blue Jays traded closer Ken Minahan to the Wilmington Iron Pigs in return for 3 prospects. A deal that shows the Blue Jays are looking to the future.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Andy Kohl, Dover Generals, 13-22 2 HR's, 7 RBI's
MarVa: Jack Dooley, Baltimore Barons, 11-23 4 HR's, 8 RBI's

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (155.0)
2) Dover Generals (119.1)
3) Georgetown Sixteens (115.1)
4) Milton Brewers (106.7)
5) Annapolis Admirals (106.6)

GM Notes: Derek Campbell and Augusto Rodriquez had small DTD injuries. I think I am going to get BH Chong more games, spelling DC for a while, seems like he is a little injury prone right now... Ed Duke is having an career year, hopefully this isn't a fluke and will be a sign of goo things to come. He would be a nice one to sign to an extension, but he isn't arbitration eligible yet, so thats a plus. I am guessing by that time I will have enough payroll room cleared. Well maybe, lol... Mike Ford is hitting enough to make us not miss Mauro as much but his -1.1 ZR vs Mauro's 3.8 is quite a swing. With him at first our ERA's have gone up, coincidence?... Jose Matos is making 11.5 million this season, that goes up to 14.5 next year, then he will be a free-agent. not sure I will be able to work out an extension with him, financially I can't afford it. That means Derek Campbell and Jose Matos may end up being moved this off-season. Matos will be a bigger blow, but both will be pretty big losses. Not to mention that both of them are extremely popular...

I did reach out to Dover and they now have the budget room to trade for Campbell, but they have no interest in giving me Claude Bond for Campbell straight up. They asked for King Brock or Arturo Ramirez. I laughed and moved on. Campbell will be with us till through the end of the season, with Candelaria out, it only makes sense now. Trade deadline is in 2 days.

Random Stat of the week:
Career Wins
1) Miguel Contreras - 109 (Age: 30)
2) Marcos Estrada - 101 (Age: 30)
3) Jose Matos - 98 (Age: 31)
4) Don Sweetapple - 94 (Age: 33)
They are the only 4 over 90. There are 8 with between 81-86, however.
