Two to four years, actually, with the deals expiring after the conclusion of seasons in even-numbered years.

The agreements don't involve money, as far as I'm aware. Major League Rule 56 sets out what's involved with a PDC(Player Development Contracts).
The major league club doesn't pay the minor league club directly for the affiliation. Rather, the PDC sets out how the costs for running the ball club (e.g. player salaries, travel, equipment, uniforms, etc.) are split between the major league and minor league team.
