I'm currently nearing the trade deadline in my league, and wondering what to do with my former star 1B, Eric Weaver.

When I traded for him 3 years ago he was a mostly developed ML prospect with plus-plus power. He has performed well up to now, but between the end of last season and opening day, his ratings fell signficantly.

I still have him on contract for 2 more seasons, but am not entirely sure whether to keep him in a platoon situation, or try to trade him. However, he has very little 'shop' value (a few old crappy relievers and 1-star scrubs). I know he's no spring chicken (mid-20s), but I think he might be showing signs of imploding anyway.
So I'm wondering, for players who have taken a bigger rating hit (I don't mean the kind of fluctuation where, for instance, their CON goes down 1 point, then back up 6 mos. later), do they ever "recover" more of their former ratings glory, or is their usual trajectory simply downward?
