2017 Managers of the Year
Delaware Conference Names #1 Manager: A baseball manager's success usually depends on the talent of his club, but in the case of Jesús González, he seems to have taken the Milford Clippers to a higher level and gotten his just due. He was named this season's Manager of the Year in the Delaware Conference for leading the team to a very rewarding season.
"Everyone on the team put in a lot of hard work this season," he told reporters. "It's always nice when it's acknowledged in some way."
González led Milford to a second place finish in the Delaware Conference Northern Division. The Clippers ended up with a 91-71 record.+
Jose Gonzalez has been with the Clippers, since 2013 and had lead them to a total record of 402-408. His best season was this year, finishing 2nd with a 91-71 year, a 20 game swing from last season. This is his first MOY award.
MarVa Conference Best Manager, Turcotte of the Norfolk Cavaliers: When Alastair Turcotte was hired to lead the Norfolk Cavaliers, fans were expecting improvement over the last manager. Today, flanked by team officials, Turcotte accepted the MarVa Conference Manager of the Year Award, noting the level of passion for the Norfolk Cavaliers.
"The biggest challenge was the fans. I don't know how many times I was asked, if I thought the club was good enough. It was as if they expected failure. It was much easier to win over the ballplayers. Slowly but surely the fans began to believe in us."
Turcotte led Norfolk to a first place finish in the MarVa Conference Western Division. The Cavaliers ended up with a 114-48 record.
Turcotte is looking forward to the offseason. "We're reviewing our options. You never stand still in baseball. You either get better or worse, 'cause everyone else is out to get your free agents or deal for your prospects. It's going to be a challenge." But the skipper has more than proven he is equal to the task.
Alastair Turcotte was the bench coach for the Cavaliers in 2013 and took the helm heading into the 2014 season, since then he has done nothing but win. This year marks the third Championship. Once on the hot-seat, now one of the games best. This is Alastair's 3rd MOY award: 2014, 2016, 2017
