Local rising star Darius Michalczewski 18-0-0 (16) passed a strong test against American hard-hitter Andrew Maynard 21-6-0 (18) and continued in his way for a world title chance.
Maynard surprised Michalczewski on the first round hurting him with crosses and hooks from the outside and well timed uppercuts from the inside. Maynard continued in control of the fight on a slow second round. By the third round Michalczewski showed his power when he stunned Maynard with a hard uppercut and then he shook the american with several straight rights to the head. The fourth round had big action with Michalczewski connecting a bit more than Maynard that ended the round bleeding from above his right eye.
Rounds fifth and sixth were clearly on Michalczewski’s favor but on the seventh round both fighters went to war exchanging hard blows with Maynard hurting Darius early on the round with a right cross and Michalczewski coming back later with a great uppercut to Maynard’s chin.
The eighth round was close for its first half but then Michalczewski connected a perfect straight right to Maynard’s chin and dropped him for the full count.
At the time of the stoppage the scorecards were 68-65 and 68-67 for Michalczewski and 68-65 for Maynard.

Darius Michalczewski WKO8 Andrew Maynard.
