On a sold out Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas IBF middleweight champion Roy Jones Jr 23-0-0 (21) and WBC champion Gerald McClellan 29-2-0 (27) met to unificate titles on an explosive fight.
Round 1: Jones Jr started the fight jabbing and combining with some rights, a hard hook seemed to hurt McClellan and then Jones connected a lighting cross to Mcclellan’s chin and dropped him for a an eight count. McClellan got up and managed to stay out of risk for the rest of the round.

Round 2: Jones Jr. connected a good cross and an uppercut early on the round, McClellan answered with a good body shot. Then Jones Jr. attemped to work behind his jab, McClellan connected a murderous cross but Jones came back connecting a big left to edge the round.

Round 3: McClellan landed a big left-right combination and went straight to Jones that received him with a hard uppercut, McClellan connected his own uppercut and then he took a step back and connected a big cross behind his jab. Jones reacted on the final forty seconds and connected two big crosses and a hook to McClellan’s head.

Round 4: Jones Jr went to the inside and connected a pair of consecutive uppercuts and dropped McClellan for a short count. After McClellan got up Jones connected another uppercut and followed it with a right cross and finally with a straight right to McClellan chin, that let Gerald lying on the ropes, then Jones connected a quick flurry of punches until the referee stopped the fight.
At the time of the stoppage Jones Jr was leading by 30-25 on all three scorecards.
