Game 2 Conference Playoffs

Game 2 of the Conference Championships

Carlos Delgado gets the start for the Admirals. He was there #2 man most of the season. (#1 is out with an injury) On the season he put up solid numbers in 32 starts, going 13-11 4.16. Against us this season he was 0-3 5.19 ERA. For the Cav's we go with Jose Matos. Matos was 23-5 on the season and 2-0 2.45 against the Admirals.

Lineup: With a righty on the hill I had to make a call, put Derek Campbell at 2nd and sit Jesus Rivera or put Campbell at short and sit Augusto Rodriquez... even though Augusto didn't hit Delgado very well this season (1-7) he is my shortstop. I feel bad for Jesus, but I feel like this is the right move.

Norfolk leads the series 2-0

W: Jose Matos (1-0)
L: Carlos Delgado (0-1)
HR: NFK: Pablo Freitas (1), Jesus Rivera (2), Augusto Rodriquez (1)

POG: Pablo Freitas 2-3 2 Runs, 2 RBI
Attendance: 43760

Key Play: After the Admirals fought back to tie the game, an error by third baseman Jose Colon scored Roberto Perez and the next batter Pablo Freitas hit a 2-run HR. Giving the Cav's a 3-run lead and taking the wind from the Admirals sails

Game Notes: The Cav's had 12 hits, with 5 players getting 2 each. Pablo Freitas and Mauro Candelaria lead the way with 2 RBI each... Kiyonobu Matsuura lead the Admirals with 3 hits, and their #8 and #9 hitters (Berry and Payne) added 2 each... Joe Payne is the same Joe Payne as the one that played for us a few years back... Sun Ho will take on Curt Webster in game 3.

Post Game Thoughts: We came in and did what we had to do, won two games at home. Now we head into Annapolis with Joe Parker and Sun Ho on the hill. A sweep would be best, but we need to at least pull out one win. If we go into game 5 Miguel Contreras gets the ball, we are only carrying 4 starters... Jesus Rivera hit another HR, showing me that he put his awful post season last year behind him and is ready to play. He came into the playoffs red hot. I guess getting removed from the starting lineup had an effect on him... Augusto Rodriquez added 2 hits, as many as he had last post season. Hopefully he will continue to hit the ball... Jose Matos looked good, he went 8 innings threw 111 pitches. The bullpen should be well rested for the games in Annapolis... King Brock has hit the ball very well this playoffs, he is giving me confidence that its time to move Jose Rodriquez (along with Pablo Freitas) this off-season. Thats a discussion for another day.

Delaware Conference: Wilmington @ Dover
The Generals jumped out to a 1-0 lead after two, but a 5 run 3rd was all the Iron Pigs would need, as the pitches found their grooves. The Iron Pigs had one of the games bests Marcos Estrada on the hill and he did was he does best, dominate.

Wilmington Iron Pigs lead the series 2-0

Game Notes: Jose Velasquez had a rough 3rd inning, thanks to 3 walks and a 2-out 2-strike catchers interference call, the Iron Pigs scored an additional 3 runs. This was the game changer, as the Generals couldn't get anything going after that point... Marcos Estrada helped his cause with 3 hits and 2 RBI's... Claude Bond of the Generals, had 2 hits to lead the Generals (He is own my radar, we will be making a play for him this offseason)... The Generals need Pedro Galvan to get on the bases and put pressure on the Iron Pigs pitchers. Pedro is 0-6 with a walk this series. He lead the league with 80 steals, can't steal if you don't get on.
