Game 139
Virginia Beach 0, Norfolk 2
Arturo Ramirez (1-0) didn't disappoint anyone in his first big league start, as he threw a complete game 9-inning 2-hit shutout. Arturo struck out 4 and threw 99 pitches. The offense was lead by Kent Davis and his 3 hits, as well as Mauro Candelaria who added 2. King Brock added a 2-run HR (13).

Transactions News: After the game we sent Arturo Ramirez down to AAA to help with the Championship run. Ron Reilly is back into the rotation. It was a tough call, but I beleive its the right thing to do. Arturo should get one more start with us before seasons end.

Game 140
Virginia Beach 5, Norfolk 3
Sun Ho (14-6) took the loss, getting hit hard over 6.2 innings, giving up 5 runs on 6 hits, 2 HR's. Will Rose pitched a perfect 2.1 but the offense couldn't get enough going. The Cav's had 9 hits, 3 of which came from King Brock, which included the only hit for extra bases a double. Kent Davis stole base #40.

Game 141
Virginia Beach 12, Norfolk 10 (14 Innings)
Joe Parker (ND) got hit hard over 4.2 innings, allowing 7 hits and 8 runs. Joe King (4-2) too the loss going 3 innings of relief and giving up 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks. The offense had 18 hits including 3 by Roberto Perez and Mauro Candelaria and 2 by Kent Davis, Javier Janchez, Derek Campbell, Pablo Freitas and Jesus Rivera. King (14) and Jesus Rivera (9) both went deep. Roberto Perez stole base #50.

Transactions News: Jose Rodriquez came off the DL. I put him in the lineup to replace Javier Janchez. Janchez will remain up with us and be our out-field sub for everyone. I have to figure out how to get Jesus Rivera some at-bats over the next couple of weeks. Assuming he will be our playoff 2nd baseman. Not sure yet though.

Game 142
Virginia Beach 0, Norfolk 7
Miguel Contreras (21-2) continued his magical season, going 8.2 innings allowing just 5 hits and striking out 10. The offense was lead by Jesus Rivera, who went 4-4 with 4 runs and 3 RBI, including 2 HR's (11) and a double. Roberto Perez, Mauro Candelarai, Gilberto Ramos and Augusto Rodriquez each added 2 hits.

News: The Cavaliers officially clinched a playoff spot with their win today.

Game 143
Norfolk 4, Ellicott City 7
Jose Matos (21-5) got hit hard today, not making it past the 4th inning, going 3.2 giving up 7 hits and 6 runs. Ron Harris and Will Rose tried to get the came in check, giving up 1 run on 1 hit over the last 4.1 innings. The offense was lead by Mauro Candelaria who had 2 hits.

Game 144
Norfolk 10, Ellicott City 4
Ron Reilly (11-9) went 8.2 innings allowing 9 hits and 4 runs, but was ejected before he could finish the game (he plunked a guy after he gave up a 2-run HR, his second HBP of the game). The offense broke out for 12 hits, including 2-hit days by Augusto Rodriquez, Pablo Freitas, Derek Campbell and Roberto Perez. Ed Duke added a 3-run HR (11) and Augusto Rodriquez hit a solo-shot (8).

Transactions News: Ron Reilly has been suspended for 2 games after his part in a brawl in Todays game. He won't miss a start... I also sent Javier Janchez down to AAA to help with the push for the Championship, and to get more at-bats.

Around the League:
  • Gabriel Gonzalez of the Ellicott city Express will miss 2 more weeks as he is not healing as fast as they would of hoped from his 'dead arm'. In 26 starts Gonzalez is 7-5 with a 3.41.
  • The Annapolis Admirals have their second baseman for the next 4 years, as they signed Jose Colon to a 4-yr $46 million extension.
  • Record steal man Pedro Galvan, of the Dover Generals, has an annoying oblique strain and will miss at least a week.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Andy Kohl, Dover Generals, 10-22 3 HR's, 9 RBI's
MarVa: John Bowles, Baltimore Barons, 12-21 3 HR's, 10 RBI's

Power Rankings:
1) Norfolk Cavaliers (129.3)
2) Dover Generals (127.0)
3) Ocean City Tourists (118.5)
4) Wilmington Iron Pigs (116.5)
5) Annapolis Admirals (110.3)

Divisional Races (teams w/in 10 games shown):
Southern Division:
Dover Generals M#16
Georgetown Sixteens -3

Northern Division:
Wilmington Iron Pigs M#10
New Castle Colonials -9
Milford Clippers -9

Eastern Division:
Ocean City Tourists M#14
Annapolis Admirals -5

Western Division:
Norfolk Cavaliers *clinched*

GM Notes: Arturo Ramirez impressed with his start against the Surf Dawgs. He faced the ace of the Dawgs and he pitched very impressively. He should have himself a spot in our rotation next year... Miguel Contreras keeps winning, and is now tied with the league lead in wins. On his way to a 3rd straight triple crown. Sad to say the only reason he has caught the leader in wins is Jose Matos is struggling. Hopefully its just late season jitters, and not a sign of bigger issues... We seem to be very up and down, the funny thing is we are usually up against the other teams better pitchers, hopefully that bodes well for the playoffs... 18 more games. Need to get the rotation rested, get the lineup back in gear and we should be good. Jose Rodriquez went 1-10 since his return, hopefully he can get his swing back before the playoffs begin. I am not as confident with this team, as I was with last years team...
