Transaction News: Pablo Freitas was hitting .375 at AAA, so I made the move and brought him up. I sent down Utility man Cody Johnson, who was hitting .187 (oddly enough he finished last year hitting .187). To make room in the lineup, I moved Derek Campbell to 2B and put Pablo in LF. Campbell isn't a great 2B, but it allows me to get more bats in the lineup and keep Janchez in the lineup... side note: Pablo Freitas has been downgraded to a "Fragile" injury rating.
Game 132
Washington 5, Norfolk 4 (10 Innings)
Miguel Contreras (ND) went 6.2 innings giving up 2 hits, no runs and striking out 11, before giving the ball over to the pen. Dalton Whitaker strugged, giving up 2 hits, 2 walks and 3 runs, as he blew the save (4) and Derek Carter (1-1) took the loss in the 10th giving up 1 hit, 2 walks and 1 run. The offense was led by Kent Davis and Roberto Perez both with 2 hits. Davis added 2-runs, including a solo-HR (3). Pablo Freitas was 0-3 with 2 walks in his return.
Game 133
Washington 4, Norfolk 1
Jose Matos (21-4) took the loss, but pitched a solid game, going 7 innigns, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 8. Jamie King gave up 2 runs in 2/3 of relief. The offense had 6 hits, with King Brock leading the way with a 2-2 day. The Cav's didn't strike-out on the day.
Game 134
Washington 4, Norfolk 5 (14 Innings)
Ron Reilly (ND) left in the 6th with an undisclosed injury, going 5 innings, allowing 8 hits and 4 runs. The pen held the Senators scoreless over the final 9 with Ivan Pineda collecting the win (1-0) in the 14th. The offense was lead by Ed Duke who had a 4-6 day with 3 RBI, including a HR (10) and the winning RBI. Kent Davis and Derek Campbell each aded 3 hits and Javier Janchez and Mauro Candelaria added 2.
Game 135
Norfolk 11, Annapolis 3
Sun Ho (14-5) won another game holding the Admirals to 2 runs in 6.2 innings, on 6 hits. Five guys on the offense had 2-hit days: Kent Davis, Roberto Perez, Pablo Freitas, Mauro Candelaria and Ed Duke. Campbell, Candelaria and Perez each drove in 2. Perez hit is 30th HR of the season, collecting another 30/30.
Transactions News: My first September call-up was Cody Johnson. He should be on this roster even if he can't hit. He doesn't get enough PT, but its nice to have a guy that plays 5 posistions... I checked in on my pitching in the minor and 2 of the 3 guys are injuried. Adrian Otero is out a week, and Vaughn Griffith has been shut-down for the rest of the season. So no other call-ups as of now. Ron Reilly is day-to-day for a 5 days, so I am going to bring up Arturo Ramirez to take his spot in the rotation, then he will go back down to help with the playoffs. Adrian Otero, Joe Gould, Justin Freisi and Yazi Ine could be brought up later this month.
Game 136
Norfolk 5, Annapolis 1
Joe Parker (13-7) keeps showing us that he wants a rotation spot in the post-season, as he went 8 strong innings, allowing 8 hits and 1 run. The top 4 hitters each had 2 hits: Kent Davis, Roberto Perez, Javier Janchez and Derek Campbell. Roberto Perez scored 2 times and drove in 2, including a HR (31).
Game 137
Norfolk 4, Annapolis 3
Miguel Contreras (20-2) won his 20th going 7 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs while striking out 8. Six pitchers relieved Miguel with Dalton Whitaker picking up his 40th save. The offense was lead by Kent Davis with 3 hits and Derek Campbell with 2 hits and 3 RBI's, including a HR (28).
Game 138
Norfolk 4, Annapolis 5 (10 innings)
Jose Matos (ND) went 8 innings, giving up 6 hits and 4 runs (2 ER), but left in a tie game. Dalton Whitaker (1-5) took the loss, giving up a walk-off HR in the 10th. The offense had 11 hits, with Julio Romero, King Brock and Augusto Rodriquez each collecting 2. Jesus Rivera playing 3rd struggled in the field commiting 3 errors.

GM Notes: Jose Rodriquez will be back in 4 days, so that will give us a little more depth. I will have to figure out what to do with the lineup at this point. Move Janchez? Freitas? What gives us the best chance to win? ... Arturo Ramirez will get the start on Tuesday, then he will be shipped back down to AAA and Reilly will get back into the rotation. Should be an interesting debut, but you couldn't ask for it to be worse a worse team (Virginia Beach). He has a good shot to get some confidence... We just need to stay healthy for 24 more days... With Matos and Contreras we have our first to 20 game winners in Norfolk. A great accomplishment. The fans have backed us of late, which has been nice... I am curious if Freitas "wrecked" status will effect his trade value this off-season. I would like to sign Joe Parker to an extension, not sure I will be able to based on his salary demands and the timing. We have no money available at this time... I can't say this enough, but I am ready for the season to end, I am afraid of injuries...
