4/6/1987 - Opening Day

Season 10 begins with the Expos today, on the road against the Reds. Through a series of bad moves, bad luck, impatience, and who knows what else, the Expos become the first team to have to go 10 seasons. I'm hoping that we can get off to a good start, stay productive all season, and return to the postseason.

We made one addition right before the start of Spring Training. We needed a utility infielder, and in this world Ozzie Smith fit the bill. The Wizard of Oz signed a 1 year $243,800 contract to flash the leather. Smith hit .207 last year in a similar role for the Pirates.

With 297 career wins, Jon Matlock got his first crack at win number 298 today. Through no fault of his own, Matlock left the game after 8 innings with a no decision after allowing two runs. The Expos would go on to lose Opening Day 3-2 in 12 innings.
