I just did a test. On releases
Team Option: Only on the hook for Buy outs.
Vesting Option: On hook for all of it, even if no chance they would reach
Player Option: on hook for the whole amount.
as for date, as above Day after WS ends. Though I have not tried to release a player with a non vested Vesting option during playoff to see what would happen. ill try when I get that...
EDIT: note that if you release the player, they will be upset at you and not re-sign. If you decline the option I have not had this problem, if that makes a difference for you (ie you want to re-sign Cliff next year for way less money)
EDIT2: I don't have players with a mix of options. so not sure how that is handled (the Adam Lind type contracts)
