IPA MVP AWARDS GO TO INKAMARA AND VAN DALEN
The IPA Golden Bat winners Nioka Inkamara of Wynnamac and Rikky Van Dalen of Cape Coral became double winners this year by also hauling in the much-coveted Most Valuable Player honors. The Ruthlandian Union also made Inkamara the league's MVP and the Tycobbian Union did likewise to Van Dalen. This was the first time the two very talented players were honored as MVPs.
Ruthlandian Union Most Valuable Player Award:
1. Nioka Inkamara (Wynnamac): .329 BA, 49 HR, 141 RBI, 117 runs
Inkamara put up valuable numbers that helped the Sundowners win the RU East Division for the first time in over a decade... he paced the IPA with 141 RBIs and was tied for second with 117 runs in the RU... after five years in the league Inkamara has compiled a strong .309 BA.
2. Nicky Farrugia (St. John): .338 BA, 35 HR, 102 RBI, 104 runs
the talented outfielder was a vital cog in St. John taking the RU South Division title... without his offensive output they wouldn't have won it... in his nine-year career Farrugia is sporting a tremendous .327 BA, which is currently ranked 10th best all-time in the IPA.
3. Bobby Gamble (Sugar Valley): .312 BA, 28 HR, 112 RBI, 120 runs, 26 SB
Gamble is the "Mr. Everything" in Rattler history with a .316 lifetime BA in 10 seasons, 4 Golden Bats and 2 MVPs... also a Golden Glover... the gifted outfielder was an important ingredient in Sugar Valley's third-place finish in the RU East... he came in third in the IPA in scoring runs with 120 this season... was tied for second with 39 doubles.
Tycobbia Union Most Valuable Player Award:
1. Rikky Van Dalen (Cape Coral): .371 BA, 31 HR, 123 RBI, 125 runs, 19 SB
It was a marvelous year for Van Dalen... he topped the IPA with a .371 BA, was a co-leader with 222 hits and led in runs scored with 125... and his Hurricanes came in third in the TU South... Van Dalen has hit a healthy .310 in his seven-season career.
2. Billy Hoover (Southport): (26-11/2.16)
He led the Sun Sox to their first pennant in 15 years... his 26 wins led the IPA... Hoover was fourth in the IPA with a 2.16 ERA... he also led the IPA with 8 shutouts and 30 complete games... at age 27 Hoover has been in the league for four years and has a 73-57 mark with a fine 2.94 ERA... this was his first 20-game season.
3. Jay Murphy (South Fork): (25-7/1.90)
Murphy was a vital link in the Stallions' second consecutive Tycobbian East title... he was tied for second in the IPA in victories with 25... led the IPA with a remarkable 1.90 ERA and Murphy was given the Golden Arm Award for his mound accomplishments, but he lost a close race to Van Dalen and Hoover for the prestigious MVP award.
