So I gave up on waiting for Avast and went to shut down, and then it got stuck for several minutes in shutdown mode. So I had to hard shut it down, and I got the error message restarting it. But now it has finally come back, after spending about five times longer than normal to start up again, and as it turns out, Avast did load up. It just got stuck on its screen and mmade my laptop barf.

But I am running a full system scan with Avast right now, which looks like a very slow process. But, we'll see what it says.
